Term project: Social Networking, Better or worse than the real thing?

My topic for the term project is Social Networking: Better or worse than the real thing?
Nowadays, almost everyone are on facebook, twitter, or google plus. Are these social networks replacing the real physical face to face social meetings?
I will perform analysis on social networks and analyze positive and negative effects on society.

  1. Roee, it is interesting to think of Facebook as a replacement to physical face-to-face social meetings.. especially since they added the webcam option to Facebook chat. I think Facebook is ideal for keeping in touch, advertising, socializing, presenting photos, and creating events. Still, I don't think it replaces the physical face-to-face interactions. That is, people still meet up in person to talk and using Facebook to relay the time/date of meetings help with that.

  2. Hi Roee,
I think everyone has thought about this one way or another. People have become addicted to these social networking sites that they rely on it to communicate and to see what everyone is up to 24/7, instead of calling or meeting up with their friends. A few punches on the keyboard and the whole world would know what you are up to. Improving technology plays a big part in this, as it is constantly changing our lives. Although social networking sites are taking over, it's definitely a great tool of networking and keeping in touch with people. Most people still realize this but needs to keep in mind the importance and need of a physical face to face meeting.

  3. I am focusing in more-so on Facebook and its positive and negative effects. I agree that this type of "new media" has changed so much in terms of business, recreation, etc. but who is to really say that it is all for the best?

  4. Hello Roee,
I definitely agree with you, everyone does have a facebook account, or twitter or any other social network which is limiting the amount of time we set up meeting one another. We all communicate many things through facebook, things we can also communite in person or through a phone call. I do it myself, and sometimes I see it as it's more convenient to leave someone a message on facebook because it can be straight forward and they can read it whenever they want.In relation to how this is affecting our society, I think it is affecting they way we communicate in person. For me, sometimes it's much easier to say via facebook than in person, just because many of us don't really have the time to actually make a phone call and etc. I do believe you're term paper will be really interesting, and I look forward to reading it!

  5. Hey Roee,

I think it is rather obvious that face to face contact is better than social network contact. A lot of teenagers today have extremely poor communication skills, to the point of it being alarming. I do not know how we can reverse this trend, but I know it's not good.
